What Is The Difference between PE And Aramid Materials for Bulletproof Equipment?

With the progress of society, the development and use of various new materials have become more and more abundant. For decades, the emergence of high-performance fiber materials has promoted the upgrading of bulletproof equipment. There are two main types of high-performance fiber materials on the market: PE and aramid. So since they are both high-performance fiber materials, what is the difference between them? Ki Ang tactical equipment manufacturer will explain it to you below:

PE material

High Density Polyethylene ("HDPE" for short), also known as low-pressure polyethylene, is a highly crystalline, non-polar surface that is translucent to a certain extent. PE has excellent resistance to most domestic and industrial chemicals.

HDPE is a highly crystalline, non-polar thermoplastic resin. High-density polyethylene is a white powder granular product, non-toxic and odorless, with a density in the range of 0.940~0.976 g/cm3; a crystallinity of 80%~90%, a softening point of 125~135°C, and a service temperature of up to 100 ℃; melting temperature is 120~160℃. For materials with larger molecules, the recommended melting temperature range is between 200~250℃.

Advantage

· It has good heat resistance and cold resistance, good chemical stability, high rigidity and toughness, and good mechanical strength. The dielectric properties and environmental stress cracking resistance are also good.

· Hardness, tensile strength and creep property are better than low density polyethylene.

· It has good wear resistance, electrical insulation, toughness and cold resistance, but is slightly worse than low-density insulation.

· Good chemical stability, insoluble in any organic solvent at room temperature, and resistant to corrosion by acids, alkali and various salts

· The film has low permeability to water vapor and air and low water absorption.

· The aging resistance is poor, and the environmental cracking resistance is not as good as that of low-density polyethylene. In particular, thermal oxidation will reduce its performance. Therefore, antioxidants and ultraviolet absorbers need to be added to the resin to improve this shortcoming.

High-density polyethylene film has a lower heat distortion temperature under stress, which should be paid attention to when applying.

Aramid material

Aramid, also known as Kevlar, has the advantages of high temperature resistance, acid and alkali resistance, light weight, and high strength. It has been widely used in bulletproof equipment, construction, electronic equipment and other fields. Compared with PE, aramid has better high temperature resistance and creep resistance. Similarly, aramid fiber also has some disadvantages. For example, it will degrade when exposed to ultraviolet rays and is easy to hydrolyze. Even if it is stored in a dry environment, it will absorb moisture in the air and gradually hydrolyze. Therefore, aramid fiber equipment is not suitable for long-term exposure to strong ultraviolet rays and Use in humid environments.

Advantage

High strength and light weight

·High strength: Aramid is a high-performance synthetic fiber with extremely high tensile strength.

·Light weight: Aramid has a low density, such as aramid III, which is only 1.43~1.45 g/cm³. This allows bulletproof equipment made of aramid to be lightweight while maintaining high strength, which helps to improve the mobility and comfort of combatants.

Excellent bulletproof performance

·Aramid fiber can effectively absorb and dissipate the energy of bullets, prevent penetration, and reduce blunt injuries. Its bulletproof performance is significantly better than traditional materials such as nylon, polyphenol and glass fiber.

·At the same level of protection, aramid bulletproof equipment is usually lighter and thinner than equipment made of other materials, providing better concealment and wearing comfort.

High temperature resistance and flame retardant

· Aramid has excellent high temperature resistance and can maintain a stable structure and good protective performance in high temperature environments. For example, aramid bulletproof products can still maintain a stable structure and good protective performance in a high temperature environment of 200°C.

· Aramid is an inherently flame-retardant fiber. The processed fabric has permanent and efficient flame-retardant function without treatment, which is of great significance for improving the safety of bulletproof equipment.

Corrosion resistance and wear resistance

· Aramid has good corrosion resistance and wear resistance, and can maintain stable performance in harsh environments. This allows aramid bulletproof equipment to maintain good protection during long-term use.

Good formability and processability

· Aramid fiber is easy to process into various shapes and sizes to meet the needs of different equipment. For example, aramid can be used to manufacture bulletproof helmets, bulletproof vests, bulletproof armor and other equipment.

Wide range of application areas

· Aramid bulletproof equipment has been widely used in military, police, security and other fields. For example, aramid bulletproof helmets, bulletproof vests, etc. have become important protective equipment in modern warfare and anti-terrorism operations.
